Biografie
Audun Halvorsen werd geboren in 1979 en groeide op in Haugesund aan de Noorse westkust. Hij begon zijn eerste fagotstudies bij Robert Rønnes en vervolgde zijn studie aan de ‘Norges musikkhøgskole’ bij Eirik Birkeland en Knut Sønstevold. Ole Kristian Dahl was daarna zijn leraar en mentor.
Audun kreeg zijn eerste baan als solo fagottist in het Norrköping Symfonie orkest. in 2001. Vanaf 2002 bekleedde hij dezelfde positie in de Noorse Staatsopera in Oslo, gevolgd door het Rotterdams Philharmonisch Orkest in 2005-06, en het NDR Symfonieorkest in Hamburg in 2010-11. Sinds 2006 is Audun solo-fagottist in het Deens Nationaal Symfonieorkest in Kopenhagen.
Als gast speelde Audun ook regelmatig in orkesten als het Londen Symfonie Orkest, Oslo Philharmonisch Orkest, Mahler Chamber Orchestra, Oslo Philharmonic Orchestra, Zweeds radio Symfonieorkest, Gothenburg Symfonie Orkest en Bergen Philharmonisch Orkest.
Hij was lid van het Luzerne Festival Orkest in 2011, with Claudio Abbado als dirigent.
Hij maakte zijn debuut als solist in 2003 bij het Stavanger Symfonie Orkest als ‘The Young Musician of the Year’ gevolgd door solo-optredens met het Norrköping Symfonie Orkest, het Noors Radio Symfonie Orkest en het Orkest van de Deense Nationale Radio. in Kopenhagen.
In 2003 won hij de ”Crusell Bassoon Competition” in Uusikaupunki in Finland, en bovendien de ”Norwegian Shell prize”.
Audun is actief kamermusicus en lid van “Diamant Ensemblet” in Kopenhagen, en heeft deelgenomen aan kamermuziek festivals in Risør, Stavanger, Oslo, Gloppen, Korsholm, Uusikaupunki en Isafjordur in Norwegen, Finland en IJsland.
Audun geeft les aan de Royal Danish Academy of Music.

Audun: "When working with top-conductors such as Valeri Gergiev we are required to be totally flexible musicians. For this we need good tools for playing. A perfect bassoon reed should in my taste contain following qualities:

A warm complete sound that is easy to change in timbre, but still sustain the same sound from pppp - ffff without forcing it.
Equal resistance through the whole register and same intonation in any octave.
A lot of air-resistance but low lip-pressure."

"After experiments guided by Hans Wisse we now developed a new reed model that contains all qualities mentioned above. The reed has a narrowed convex blade. (length 28/29mm)
This new high tensioned Halvorsen-shape combines the best with a medium-hard or even hard cane. I totally trust on Hans expertise to select the cane from the various plantations for the best results on my model. With canes from the most French plantations, like Marion, Rigotti and Silvacane, and the Spanish Medir plantation for example, we gain the desired results."

Remark: Only recommended for advanced players. For this type of reed a good breath support has been required. (H.W.)
